What It Holds
- Framed paintings, canvas prints, and original artworks
- Framed photographs and family portraits
- Mirrors – up to the box face dimensions
- Unframed canvas rolls (rolled inside with bubble wrap)
- Large flat electronics – drawing tablets, screens – for shipping
How It Works
The picture box is a telescoping design – two interlocking box halves that slide into each other. Set the depth to match your frame thickness, tape it at that position, and the artwork is held snugly with no room to shift or absorb corner impact. Always wrap the frame in bubble wrap first, then place it in the frame box.
Tip: Tape the box firmly on all four edges with clear BOPP tape. Store art boxes upright – never flat on the floor.
Moving
Gallery walls, framed photographs, mirrors, and art collections are among the most difficult items to move safely. Standard packing boxes are too deep and offer no corner protection. The art shipping box is purpose-built – the frame cannot shift inside it, and the double-wall construction absorbs corner impact.
Storage
Art collectors, interior designers, and households storing framed works during renovation use picture boxes to keep pieces safe upright in a storage unit. Standing the box upright prevents warping of the frame and canvas over time.
Tip: Store mirror boxes and picture boxes upright, leaning against a wall, with a sheet of corrugated cardboard between stacked boxes to prevent edge contact.
Tip: Add a silica gel sachet inside each picture box before sealing for storage. Silica gel absorbs moisture from the enclosed air space, protecting canvas, paper, and wooden frames from mould and warping during long-term storage.
Air Freight & Shipping
For clients sending artworks internationally as air cargo or excess luggage, a picture box is the minimum acceptable packaging for most airlines and freight forwarders. Many international shipping companies require it as a condition for accepting fragile artwork.
